Almost every time I pull up at my house, I sit in my car anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. One time I sat for almost an hour. I know, its weird. But for some reason I just LOVE being in my car! It’s like my little surround sound sanctuary. I’ve got the banging audio system for all my jams and believe it or not, it makes for a great lunch break napping spot! And on top of all that, some of my most special times with God have happened in my car.
Lately I’ve been realizing the importance of spending time with God. Many Christians, at some point in their journey, ask the question, “How do I get to know God better?” or “How do I grow in my relationship with the Lord?”
I’ve been there, done that myself. Hundreds, if not, thousands of books have been written on the topic. Pastors have preached entire series on it and thousands of blog posts have been posted about it; yet somehow, the question is still being asked.
After 16 short years of being a believer, here’s what I know today: the absolute best way to grow in your relationship with God is to be with Him.
The more you’re with God, the more you’ll want to be with God.
Nowadays, I can tell when my balance is off. I can tell when I haven’t spent good, quality time with God. My desires change, my focus changes, I get tired and irritated, I feel overwhelmed, frustrated, confused, lonely, selfish, greedy. Annnd I’ll stop here cause this list could go on for quite a while.
I just wanted to encourage someone today who may be seeking or trying to figure out just how to get closer to God.
Thankfully, God made it very easy for us. All we have to do is be still in His presence. BE with him. His Holy Spirit will direct your time together. He’ll tell you when to read your word or sing a song or sit silently or present your requests. He’ll encourage you and give you peace and direction. He’ll comfort and heal you.
He. Will. Be. With. You.
Everything you could possibly need is found in Him. So lets find ways to enjoy His presence as much as we can.
What are some of your favorite ways to connect with God? Do you have a special meeting place?
